The Power of Collective Change
Why does the climate crisis loom large, yet always remain a bit of a lacklustre topic? Why do we know what we have to do but we can't seem to get there? The topic of 'doing better' can leave many rolling their eyes. So often it comes down to the pressure of growth and funding. We are only human and we can all only do so much, but it's the momentum behind collective change that is what we have to keep peddling. We have to remain hopeful and optimistic that we can all do better, in small but significant ways. Why? Because popular opinion has far greater impact on lawmakers. Whether you work in fashion or food, electronics or education, publishing or politics, 2025 will develop further the conversations around how business can fundamentally operate better. Topics and debates that were once 'nice to have', have to become a 'need to have'. (To any naysayers, 'this topic of climate change' is never going away...) But 'better' isn't just using recycled packaging, or asking customers to re-use a coffee cup, or ensuring all staff cycle to work twice a month.... it goes deeper. It's about people in your company's supply chain being acknowledged more fairly (are they paid a living wage? are they offered the right to maternity leave?), it's about apprenticeships or work placements being offered to those who have always been overlooked by society, it's about ensuring more religious festivals are recognised as part of a company's annual holiday allowance, not just Christmas. It's about those at the bottom being listened to, and heard, by those further up the chain of command.
